Under Antarctica found many volcanoes
• many volcanoes found under the Antarctic
Icy continent has long been known by several volcanoes. However, just recently, it was discovered more than 100 new volcanoes that are located directly under the ice cap of Antarctica. According to scientists, this is potentially a real climate bomb.
The danger is a huge volcano, located near the so-called ice streams. The eruption of even one of them can lead to serious consequences - destabilization of the Antarctic ice sheet are at an extremely rapid rise in sea level.
The ice streams is a kind of ice river, which cover a large part of Antarctica falls into the ocean, and therefore fluctuations in the speed of their effect on sea level. And the rate just can affect numerous volcanic eruptions that are destabilizing more and subglacial volcanoes.
The awakening of subglacial volcanoes spells disaster. The rising hot lava melt the ice, because of which formed a giant lake. Magma breaks through the glacier and water flows are formed access to the sea.
These water flows will transform the West Antarctic ice sheet into the likeness of a snowy hill. Imagine an ice cube on a smooth surface: the melt water will act as a lubricant, which in the ocean slide and deposits are located at very high altitudes.
Seismologists believe that the ice sheet previously restrained volcanic activity, but global warming has reduced the pressure on the dangerous mountain peaks. Today the most active volcanoes are found where once were ancient ice in Iceland and Alaska.
The ice melted - volcanoes awake. If something like this happens in Antarctica and it will lose the icy armor, activated a record number of volcanoes. Will this lead to the Great Flood? Quite possibly.
