As sugar absorbs the whole of Africa
• How to absorb the entire Sahara Africa
Few people know that the Sahara desert runs through much of North Africa, occupying an area of as many as nine million square kilometers. In fact, more than 30% of Africa already owns the desert and it is likely that in the foreseeable future the continent goes into the dominion of ruthless sand. But what led to this tragedy and whether we need to worry about the fate of the Black continent today?
Hard to believe, but once in place the sand dunes were the real forest. The Sahara Desert was formed only four thousand years ago, and before there flowed the river, were carried out predators and herbivores. Numerous tribes degenerated today nomadic, it could develop into a major civilization, but the ruthless nature judged differently.
In 1933, a German traveler, Leo Frobenius, stumbled upon a strange diagram on the rocks in the depths of the desert. To his surprise, the artists depicted the lush flora and fauna: giraffes grazing in the rivers, the lions looked out of the dense thickets, and birds covered treetops. For a long time it was considered a hoax opening Frobenius, but scientists have proved today: the Sahara and in fact evolved from a flourishing oasis in the barren wasteland and are now ready to gradually absorb the whole of Africa.
Start of decline
About five thousand years ago the great drought literally killed a thriving savannah. From the fertile land of the Sahara turned into a barren, the rivers have dried up, and after them have disappeared and the lake. Of course, men and beasts had no choice but to leave their homes and move into the forests of Central Africa. But the desert is in no hurry to keep up. Recent data suggest that the Sahara has been steadily increasing and in a couple of thousands of years can absorb the entire continent.
On the original grandeur of the desert waterways show giant cavity, which remained at the bottom of a small salt lakes - the so-called Schotten. In seasons of drought, these places are the most dangerous: Schott turned into swamps, out of which not under force, and rhino.
Each year, the desert of the world quietly capture new territories. Sahara moves fastest. At the beginning of the XXI century, its area is estimated at 7 million square kilometers, but now scientists say about 9 million. The propagation velocity of the desert sands is an impressive 50 kilometers a year.
