Life in the darkness and silence
• Life in the darkness and silence of
Today will be a series of photographs of the unique and the only children's home in Russia for the Deaf and Blind, which is located in Sergiev Posad. Do you often think, how they live and what they do ordinary people with disabilities? Not Olympic athletes, and girls and boys school and preschool age. I have to say, I was struck by what he saw.
In my block lives a blind grandfather. He lives alone. Every day, singing some songs, he goes outside, goes around the house to the touch, and sometimes goes to the grocery store. At the entrance he makes charging and feeding the pigeons. Vision he had lost not so long ago and I remember looked like the world around him.
But there are people who can not see at birth. Even worse, when a man and a blind and deaf at the same time. For such people, from early childhood tactile sensations - it is the only link with the outside world.
I got a brief tutorial at the entrance to the building - the movement through the corridors of the orphanage RHD. More precisely - the children are moving on the right side of the corridor, the staff is on the left. So you can avoid collisions:
The interiors are spacious and not cluttered with furniture.
Today, the orphanage is more than two hundred children with different visual and hearing disabilities. Someone weak sees but hears nothing, someone on the contrary. There are children who do not see or hear at the same time. And so - this is the most ordinary children. They rush through the corridors, laugh, play and communicate with each other. And they need not so many things to feel comfortable. Their needs are intangible: a caress, care, communication. By the way, in this house you can come in as a volunteer.
Dining room. Knives and forks children issued without limitation:
In these conditions, limited possibilities are almost unlimited. Orphanage Sergiev Posad - the only one of its kind institution in the Russian Federation, where they work with children with such problems. Teachers here - are professionals and enthusiasts, they even developed a program of teachers training (tiflosuroperevodchikov) to work in the regions. After all, here we learn only 209 children, and how many of them across the country?
So there is a process of communication: words are transmitted touches:
Maxim performs on stage and very troubled. More recently, he could not walk, let alone dance. That he had been taught at the orphanage:
For deafblind there is no televisions and video game consoles, but time is scheduled every minute - children learn useful and interesting every day and do not have time to get bored.
This is the "tactile" training schedule for the day, the format - own invention orphanage. This schedule allows deafblind children get a "thread" of information from our world and understand what awaits them during the day. Children always busy with something, a feeling that they do not get bored for a minute:
Spelling: student works in Braille, and to the teacher on the cards depict characters:
It looks like Scrabble, but in fact it is learning the alphabet:
And this - "oral" deaf blind it for each letter has its own sequence of touches:
One of the workshops. Here you can learn to do here such tapestries:
Tapestry convex, it can "see" with your fingers. Before getting into this orphanage Dasha was closed and pugnacious, but now it has become a patient, learned to read and write. And yet it is a great flirt:
In the lobby exhibition of works by students in the same conduct "official" events - Nikita, for example, Happy birthday:
Another workshop, this time there were made wax candles:
The candles are sold in the monastery, and the proceeds returned to the orphanage and she bought supplies for this production.
Hands-free without work remain. Here are actively developing even the most "difficult" pupils as around their life becomes as boring as any other child.
The workshop, where the older children made a variety of educational materials for younger groups:
On the spelling lesson learn braille typewriter.
thick paper on which the stamping process are applied letters used for printing in Braille, which are read by fingertips.
in the same row can fit up to forty characters. Most books and textbooks in the orphanage do yourself, forces teachers and students:
Lessons creativity - it's not just the tapestry, but the painting - for those pupils who allows the vision (and talent). By the way, in the previous orphanage Kohl considered mentally retarded, and pumped drugs, and here he opened up and learned how to be nice to paint and dance.
These are the funny fish obtained from visually impaired students ceramics workshop:
And this cast candles, they also make the orphanage:
It looks like reading a textbook on Russian ...
And this - the book on mathematics teacher with notes in the margin:
Another creative workshop. This application of the folded paper strips:
Work laborious, but the result is worth it!
The moment that struck me most. Anna listens to what I say, taking his fingers laryngeal vibrations. Anna was born perfectly healthy baby, but due to recent infection and substandard operations are completely lost her hearing and vision:
So she communicates with the girlfriend - touch. From the side it seems that they just hold hands, but if you look closely - fingers flit rapidly, adding the letters of offer:
Gym is quite ordinary, except that stairs and mats - soft. Well diskoshar, of course, for special occasions
Every day children go into the pool. They learn how to swim and dive. It is difficult, if the disease has affected the vestibular apparatus, but it is achievable.
In the laboratories regularly check the hearing and sight of children, to find the right exercise program for their development.
This hearing aids - modern and almost imperceptible. Surprisingly, but in order to successfully use them should also train a lot:
This is not a radio station, and one of the diagnostic equipment:
Girl presses the button when something is heard in the headphones. I stood at a distance and heard a different frequency and volume of the sound coming from the headphones. But the girl just repeatedly pressing the button:
The study of hearing with sound waves:
So the readings appear on the screen, they can be used to accurately determine the severity of hearing loss:
Students with musical talent singing in the choir. By the way, it is very famous among the visually impaired choir that often appears on a range of activities. We were told that the choir was invited to perform and at the close of the Paralympic Games.
After singing lessons Danya took one of my camera and began to shoot me
Here's what he nasnimal:
I decided to buy and bring to Dana the next time a small camera. Let removes, once he's so good at it.
That's it, it's time to leave the hospitable walls.
So people like me, those who are called healthy, easy to get out of here. But what lies beyond the threshold of children's homes these guys?
It's all very nice that there are institutions that children and teenagers consume, come up with their classes, develop different feelings. But what happens to these grown people when they come into the world? It's not even in relation to others, and in the case of pupils themselves. She was inside and I know what I say (I went to the garden for the visually impaired). And at a time when the rest of the kids who think they want to be, realize their dreams in the games, I was busy around the clock. I have not seen any free moment, I never thought about what I want to do - for me everything is decided by schedule developmental classes. And I know that, unfortunately, I'm not the only one. Therefore, a strict schedule and constantly busy hands and the brain - it's not always something good, sorry to know only when they grow up.
I would like our children to treat these people as equals, not with pity, disgust and fright. We have, unfortunately, this is not taught, and in fact with the right approach, even serious illnesses will not be an obstacle to the development and social adaptation.
I would very much like to see these institutions where so working with deafblind children were more in Russia. But this is not all that is needed for people with disabilities into society. They need quality education, jobs, accessible environment and, of course, an understanding of other people. So far, after 18 years, they have nowhere to go.
