100 years
About a century ago, photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorsky traveled the entire Russian Empire. Under the patronage of Emperor Nicholas II, he was captured in their pictures of different people and places, using its own method for developing color photos.
Several years ago, Prokudin-Gorsky photographs became Internet sensation thanks to digital technology that made it possible to turn photos into a vivid display of the beginning of XX century. A small group of enthusiasts headed strictly to places where Sergey made his pictures. The following pairs of photos, separated by a century of wars, revolutions and change of borders, are remarkable how little seems to have changed in a hundred years.
