How does the smallest railway in the world
• How does the world's smallest railway
In today's post I'll introduce you to the smallest railway in the world, designed to transport people. This type of railway in Germany called Gartenban - ie garden railway. In fact it is so his toy for adults who became a little conventional model railway and not only wants to observe the movement of model trains, but also ride on them.
Garden railways have a very different scale, the larger the size of the model, the more accurate it napominet original locomotive up to the exact copy of the engine and all the elements of art. Forty kilometers from the town in which I live is one of the largest garden railways of Baden-Württemberg, which I visited in one sunny summer days and the photos which I will illustrate this post.
This garden railway museum is located in the Swabian village Kurnbah (Oberschwäbisches Museumsdorf Kürnbach), about which I will have a separate post. Total length of tracks of the road is 1, 3 kilometers, which makes it one of the largest in Baden-Württemberg.
At first glance, it may seem that this is a common model railway, only slightly enlarged scale. But steps on the sides of the trailers give their destination a little more than just pleasing to the eye.
Many visitors come here to the camper, put in the shade beds and admire the trains running around, the movement of which, as of fire and water, you can watch forever.
Another locomotive, which, as can be understood by Seats on the roof of the trailer is manned.
The scale here several times larger than the standard sizes of unmanned model locomotives.
Gartenban museum village Kurnbah has three types of tracks - 127 mm, 184 mm and 260 mm, which corresponds to 5, 71/4 and 101/4 inches. As the birthplace of model railways and garden including a British, inch system in the track width dimensions migrated to Europe from Albion unchanged. Places all three tracks running parallel to each other, as in this picture.
All garden railway locomotives Kurnbaha display real samples railway technology and implemented in different scales. The picture shows one of the largest gartenbana locomotives, in the form which is recognized by reduced copy ovskogo locomotive GDR-1980s, made in the scale 1: 5, 4. Weight of the locomotive is 350 kg.
The largest railway locomotive and the only one where visitors can take a ride. To him we shall return at the end of the post.
Railway economy here is impressive scale.
There is even an observation well for the maintenance of equipment. Given the fact that the weight of some locomotives can reach a ton, the presence of a viewing hole in the depot is a necessity.
Detailing the locomotives is impressive, as is the fact that they are the real locomotives, rather than models with electric motors.
In the depot there are several laps of topping. The first takes the form of a quarter circle.
The second turntable classic.
One of the two locomotives gartenbana, represents a model of an industrial narrow-gauge locomotive 1925 year formed in the scale 1: 2, 3 gauge 101/4 inches. Each of these locomotives can haul trains with dozens of passengers and both of them are used for driving visitors to this garden railway. Full locomotive curb weight is 1100 kg. The locomotive was created by one of the members of the non-profit organization that owns the garden railway.
Others gartenbana steam technology. Almost all of them are privately owned and have made their own.
Gardening railway Kurnbah village was established in the period 2000 - 2004, forces Verein Schwäbischer Eisenbahnverein. Verein is a nonprofit organization composed of lovers of garden railways with membership fees and mandatory participation in the creation and maintenance of this railway.
Everything that you see in these pictures, created in stages since 2000 railway enthusiasts united by common goals and interests.
Schwaben Verein railroad has 80 members and almost 30-year history. The main purpose of Verein is the "Creation and maintenance of the railway infrastructure for locomotives which allows to demonstrate railroad equipment in action."
Participant Verein can become a fan of any of the railway, and the Verein will assist him as follows:
- the owners of their own models are able to use the rail network for gartenbana pokatushek:
- assistance and advice in the construction of its own model of a locomotive or locomotive;
- those who do not have their own locomotive Verein provides the opportunity to ride on locomotives belonging Verein, after passing the course.
In general, anyone who dreams about the railroad, can realize his dream here in miniature, regardless of their financial capabilities.
The history of the Swabian railway Verein began in 1975, when a group of railroad enthusiasts teamed up to create a small garden narrow gauge railway in the town of Aulendorf, which was implemented in 1978. Number of people willing to ride on a tiny train was so great that the road was gradually expanded and reached a length of 350 meters.
it existed until 1999. In connection with the plans of the city authorities Aulendorf relieve the city center from avtotrafika, it was decided to build a new road, which took place just across gartenbana dislocation. Complaints and protests have not helped the participants Verein gartenban and rolled into the asphalt, and the Verein started looking for a new place for the construction of the railway infrastructure on which it was possible to walk to their trains.
The search resulted in the museum village Kurnbah, on the outskirts of which the fans railway allocated place for the realization of their desires. In 2000, the construction of a new road, which is introduced into the system in phases and currently has 1, 3 km of track and the length of the annular main route is 600 meters.
The authorities of the town of Bad Schussenried, in whose territory the museum village Kurnbah maximum rail fans helped in the creation of a miniature working model railroad, as relied on an increase of the tourist flow in the museum village, and then they have miscalculated.
At present, garden railway village Kurnbah is a magnet for lovers of model railways from around the region and attracts thousands of tourists every year. This year's season opens April 10 and throughout the year is scheduled for 18 days, when the road will be open to visitors and owners of their own locomotives, which these days can even walk their steel horses. Weekdays garden railway for this year listed on the official website of the Verein.
Just one of those days I visited this attraction in southern Germany. In the picture model locomotive BR 220, made in the scale 1:11 with 5 inch gauge. Weight of the locomotive is 110 kg, the electric drive.
Location gartenbana very picturesque. In addition to the careful study of most of the railway infrastructure, are also impressive and surroundings, representing the idyllic rural landscape of southern Germany.
The railway infrastructure is devoid of objects such as bridges or tunnels, but there is a real railway crossing with a barrier.
One of the two largest locomotives gartenbana, Kata visitors. I also took the opportunity to ride on this scenic rail fallow what is below.
as Museum Kurnbah village I visited during "steam Festival" held here each year. In this day and operated garden railway, each owner could use his locomotive railway infrastructure for pokatushek. So that visitors to their Tarantass were many.
One of the guests, "a pair of Festival" with a very high quality model of a steam locomotive. In the picture just captured the moment when the driver pours into the furnace of coal.
And this is the model of the engine, created by one of the founders of the Verein Eberhard Schlegel (Eberhard Schlegel). The model was built in 1977, in scale 1: 7, 5 5 inch gauge. It is based on the locomotive system Mallet model 1898. Model weight is 180 kg, and with mind and not say.
Every year there is a meeting of owners of American locomotive models. In the photo one of the members of this family.
And this is perhaps the most interesting of the drivers I have seen on this day.
Study of an impressive model. Detail paid very close attention, even worked out the figures of people from the locomotive team.
The locomotive was also a guest, so that about it not much I can say except that the original name of the image that creates a model, BABY SIVOK 1881. I saw the locomotives of this type in the post about the narrow gauge railway in the Indian Darjeeling one of the most popular bloggers.
The locomotive, of course, as his model is very effective.
In this picture immediately and do not determine the scope of the model.
Returning to inspect the many holiday guests who came here with his models of locomotives. Further to review some locomotives will go. That is rechargeable diesel model.
Familiar locomotive. This locomotive, we found once in a lost world in the depths of the Saxon, he was locked on the bridge and the path before him and after him were dismantled.
This is the model of the GDR-ovskogo locomotive LKM V 10 B, manufacturing VEB Lokomotivbau Karl Marx Babelsberg. Lokomotiv created as a shunter for maintenance of industrial areas and driveways.
Another model is shunting locomotive, which I can not say anything specific. On the official website there is no description of this model, so, apparently, the locomotive was a guest.
Adults uncle sitting astride these toys look very unusual. But the railroad in Germany lifted up in the cult of rank, the fans which are represented by all age groups, it was clearly seen at this festival.
Uncle wearing a straw hat and saddled an electric train.
Passion railway - not just the prerogative of men. Among railway fans and met the woman. The picture shows a model of the locomotive field NGR Feldbahn. This type of railways, I had a lot of posts in the blog, since this is my favorite type of narrow-gauge railway
Another variation on the theme of shunting locomotive narrow gauge field.
The model, of course, very simple. Detailing is virtually absent, but not all have the means and skills to create masterpieces of modeling.
Teddy Bear is a locomotive to a brighter future
Uncle hat on his electric train. What a model, I will not say, I can only assume that something is Swiss. Electric with body type "crocodile" were widespread in the past in this country.
In general, a variety of rolling stock on the railway this holiday would be able to satisfy the most demanding expectations. It was something to see.
The width of five-inch track.
For those holiday guests who do not have their own transport, it has provided opportunity for a nominal fee to ride around the ring in one of the largest locomotives gartenbana.
This model is a twin locomotive with 15 photos and built by the same person. Eberhard Schlegel is the head of Verein, and judging by how well and made his big model has the highest experience in the steam locomotive among the members of the organization.
The picture shows the driver's seat and in the tender, and the furnace in the cabin and a number of devices. You might also notice that the engine goes on wood.
The visitors took seats in carriages and the train hit the road.
A small train among idyllic fields of southern Germany looks absolutely fabulous.
I sat in the last car to be able to make high-quality images.
Weaving webs of all three types of track.
The best place for a garden railroad is difficult to imagine.
along a cloth placed lanterns with candles inside. Apparently, there are occasionally held and night pokatushki.
For the entourage there are elements of this large locomotives.
The car crosses the railway line through the crossing.
We pass the depot with a rich collection of art railway enthusiasts.
That is the ring on which I fotogrfiroval holiday guests on their locomotives.
Very scenic railway.
Just for the sake of this place worth a visit the museum village Kurnbah, albeit in a very small village it was something to see on the part of the vapor of agricultural equipment. This will cover in the next posts.
The trip came to an end and I am leaving this amazing place that I can strongly recommend a visit to anyone who is not indifferent to the railway. Especially because this is the place to visit is completely free, except for those days when village Kurnbah festivals.
