City on a section of ages. Zadar
• City at the cut eras. Zadar
It is amazing what mental contrasting and photographically appealing look to many cities in the Balkans. And, for this, they need not be large, world famous or untwisted in the tourist brochures. They just have to live your life, take tourists ...
It would seem, well, town and city. As usual, a stone fortress, narrow streets in the old town, adjoining modern residential neighborhoods. But here, as if on a section of an old tree trunk - streets and buildings, like the annual rings, each of his era, with its history, with my life ... And you go here, feeling the atmosphere of centuries-old history, read the signs, there is an interesting detail. ..
Today, my story about the city of Zadar, which is located in the center of Croatia, if we talk about the coastline of the country.
Tourist guides say that Zadar huddled on a tiny peninsula, 4 0, 5 kilometers, but in fact meant the old town, the historical center. The modern Zadar is considered large enough for measurement Croatian town in which he lives 70 thousand inhabitants and which has even an international airport.
As with many medieval towns, Zadar Old stone is surrounded by walls and get into it on both sides of the bridges.
at the entrance of the city gates are located, built in the form of a Roman triumphal arch. They are built in 1543 Veronese architect Michele Sammichele.
At the gates of Renaissance Venetian depicts a winged lion and the city coat of arms of Zadar.
The conquerors of all kinds and colors, starting with Romans and Byzantines and ending with the Austrians, Turks and Italians had Zadar invaluable service: conquering the city, they did not destroy it, but on the contrary, they left behind a huge number of historical monuments that reflect the different eras and cultural layers. The main attractions of Croatia, and more specifically - Zadar, centered around the ancient Roman ruins of the buildings within the old city walls, there are constantly conducted archaeological excavations.
Here are located the main attractions - the Roman Forum, St. Donat Church, the Cathedral of St. Anastasia, the Church of St. Mary, the Franciscan Monastery
Inside the old town of Zadar just looks amazing. I am not so vain called the office and the first paragraph of this city compared with a cut tree trunk.
Look at this photo - is not the annual rings of all these buildings, parked not far from the ancient columns to each other over the years - from the Middle Ages to modern bistro?
The same sense of cut trees waiting for you, and in the narrow streets of the old town. Houses made of different eras, different times and trim, and appearance, and functionality. Some live in other guest rooms, in the third boutiques and restaurants, the fourth altogether abandoned.
Windows, balconies, bridges ... and yet without the crowds of tourists. The season is not so easy to take a snapshot, someone is sure to push accidentally
The central street in the Old Town. Just incredibly wide against all others here.
But the general is long. On this tiny island every inch of land was at a premium, even in the Middle Ages
The breath of history
In such places, I always like to look into the side streets branching off, because here lives the real, non-touristic life.
It is surprising that, despite the "historicity" of the Old Town, there really is an ordinary life of ordinary citizens, with all of life, machines (entrance to the Old City residents on an individual pass) ... and the complete absence of dirt or debris
Yes, here too, everywhere there are containers, as I said in a recent post on this topic
Often the so-called apartments are located in courtyards. This is the usual guest rooms, owners who rent homes or entire entrances. With these apartments should be careful not to get into a situation in which I was, having arrived in Zadar late at night. Unlike conventional hotels, such property has no reception, no one is waiting for you at any time of day, and even pre-pointing at Buckingham later settlement, not the fact that the owner of the booked apartment will be waiting for you. In general, I recommend to pre-negotiate in private correspondence or by telephone
I can not get past these balconies ...
... and windows ...
So look all these beautiful narrow streets inside, if you look in a residential yard. Usual life
Music old Zadar
Traditionally, Central Europe, even in the narrow streets there are numerous bistros and cafes, making them even narrower

The young tourist. In early May, tourists are a little bit more, so that it can be a great time to visit
On the side of the Roman Forum is a chic urban promenade with dozens of souvenir stalls.
Perhaps this is the only thing that really "poisoning" impression. I do not like those tents, I do not like

Let all the world can wait ...
However, as for this family ...

A outside the city gates to Zadar runs the most common life of the majority of the 70 thousand inhabitants
Some drive their Ferrari ...
Some live ... also on the cut epochs
The traces left by the rains
The traces left by the sun
Next, the person who leaves
Next, these different, often continuing for many centuries, and often disappear in a few years ...
