Decorator Michael Carmichael for 34 years, every day, painted a conventional baseball ball ordinary paint. This results in a balloon, which now weighs more than a ton!
64-year-old painter and decorator Michael Carmichael admits that he spent probably thousands of dollars on paint. When he began his project of a baseball was only 7 cm in diameter. His strange project he began in earnest in January 1977, although the idea originated in the late 60th.
Every day for 34 years, Michael put on a normal baseball the next coat of paint.
Now the ball weighs 1587 kg and is 57 cm in diameter. Guinness World Records has recognized the ball the biggest in the world.
Now the ball is so big that in order to hang it requires special metal holders. Michael hung up the ball in the barn, which is specially built for its creation 15 years ago.
Michael created a website, which is quite popular. And now hundreds of people come to Michael personally to apply another coat of paint, and to contribute to this strange project.
"It all started as a simple fun, - says Michael. - But I continued to paint, dye and dyeing, and soon became a giant balloon. "
"And I realized that I do not want to stop. I moved the ball to the garage, and later built a special shed "for him.
"People come from all over the world to put a coat of paint. Sometimes, if the weather is dry, I put up to 10 layers of paint in the day, but all these years, every day I inflicted at least one layer. "
Michael - grandfather of six grandchildren. He lives in Alexandria in the US state of Indiana with his 61-year-old wife, Glenda.
His son Mike Jr. struck the first layer of paint with a brush, but now they need a cushion, given the size of the ball.
"I am always thankful to the people for their participation in this project, - says Michael. - I always take pictures of the process. "
"I have no idea why all of this, but I just kept it to paint. My grandchildren are already interested in the ball, so maybe it will be something like a family heirloom. "
It all started in the '60s, when Michael got a job in a local shop of colors for the summer break and throw a baseball.
"The ball fell in a bucket of paint," - says Michael. Then he struck on his first ball in 1000 layers of paint and put him into an orphanage. A few years later, in 1977 he and his wife Glenda began to paint one more goal - one that is now hit the Guinness Book of Records.
"January 1, 1977, I let my 3-year-old son, apply the first coat of blue paint on the ball. We painted the ball several times a day. When I was at work, my lovely wife do this for me. I painted it in the evenings and on weekends. After a while it became a kind of work of art, and we like to brag about them. And now he has become a real local landmark that come to see people from all over the country. "
